ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION CONDITION REPORT (EICR)

WHAT IS AN ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION CONDITION REPORT?
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a detailed evaluation of an electrical installation's safety for continued use. It identifies issues that may pose a risk to people or property, ensuring compliance with current electrical safety standards. The report includes findings, recommendations for repairs and a classification of the installation's condition. Regular EICR assessments maintain safety and reliability in electrical systems, providing documentation to assist in workplace compliance under Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. Without an EICR duty holders can risk severe penalties, potential criminal prosecution, potential invalidation of insurance policies and an increased danger of fire or injury.

HOW IS AN ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION REPORT CARRIED OUT?
A technician will attend the building to undertake an intrusive inspection and test of the fixed wire installation within the agreed scope of works. This includes the low voltage installation supply intake equipment, low voltage distribution switchgear, any section boards, distribution boards, distribution circuits, final circuits, fixed current using equipment, power outlets, lighting, switches, earthing and bonding. Unless otherwise agreed within the limitations and scope of works, it is a requirement that each circuit is isolated from the supply to facilitate testing. It is recommended that where a full inspection and test has become due, the EICR is scheduled outside of operational hours. This will improve the quality of the report by reducing operational and agreed limitations.
